The M5A1 is an updated M3 Light Tank fielded by the US Army and Great Britain in the latter part of WWII. Its primary function was to provide the Allies a vehicle with the means of quick reconnaissance ahead of the main body. Stuart's light weight and fast speed allowed it to perform this mission admirably. The tank also was used by several other foreign armed forces after the war.
