The Duquesne destroyer was launched on 11th February 1966 at the Brest Arsenal. It entered active service on 1st April 1970 and was assigned to the Atlantic squadron. Modernized in 1976, it was then assigned to the Mediterranean squadron in July 1977. This frigate was designed for anti-air and anti-submarine aircraft carrier protection.
