In July, 1940, Germany launched the Battle of Britain—striving to dismantle the British Air Force and force England out of the war. The Spitfire Mk.IIa, along with a host of other aircraft, ensured this would not happen. Though both sides suffered terrible losses, it was the British who emerged victorious.
