The Sd.Kfz.184 Ferdinand, named after its designer Ferdinand Porsche, was a 65-tonne heavy tank destroyer fielded by Germany. It boasted a powerful 8.8cm PaK 43/2 gun of L/71 caliber that was effective against all types of enemy armor at long range. A total of 91 vehicles were manufactured, and its combat debut occurred at the Battle of Kursk in 1943. As a result of its worse-than-expected combat performance (primarily due to poor mobility and mechanical unreliability), the vehicle was quickly modified. (At that point the vehicle became known as the Elefant). The main adversary of the Ferdinand on the Eastern Front was the famous Soviet T-34 tank. More than 84,000 T-34 tanks were constructed, making it the most widely produced tank of all time. Throughout its lifetime, the T-34 was constantly upgraded, although a 76.2mm gun was the standard armament on earlier tanks. Dragon’s kit represents just such a T-34/76 Mod.1942 tank.

These plastic kits are highly detailed miniature replicas of the original vehicles, and modelers will enjoy assembling them thanks to their cleverly engineered natures. The decals also offer interesting marking schemes for these warring opponents. With these two vehicles presented in kit form in the Orange Box 1+1 set, it has become so convenient for modelers to create an instant battle scene or diorama at great low price!
